Grant Writing

We are looking for volunteers who would be interested in helping us identify potential institutional donors and in preparing grant applications and proposals.

Classroom Modelling

We are looking for teachers currently teaching English as a Second Language, as well as kindergarten and first grade teachers who would be willing to allow us to videotape them as they work.  The areas of emphasis would be teaching phonics, reading, math, as well as English as a Second Language.  Videos would be made available to Ikirwa School staff as part of their instructional resources.

On-Site Opportunities

Artists and Carpenters

As we add classrooms and students we need bookshelves, teacher desks, tables, benches and supply cabinets so we are looking volunteers with carpentry skills to help us build those.  We also would welcome guests with background in art to design and paint murals for the school and decorate the classrooms.

Kindergarten

We are looking for volunteers with kindergarten and first grade teaching experience to work alongside our staff for a period of one month to one year, to model modern classroom teaching methods with emphasis on independent study, collaborative learning, and alternatives to rote teaching.

English As A Second Language (ESL)

We are looking for volunteers with experience teaching English as a Second Language to spend one to three months working in Tanzania with the school staff and adult students, teaching English to both groups and modeling teaching methods to the staff.
